Our Story
We started out strong, but hey, every restaurant hits a bump in the road sooner or later. Back in October 2018, the Austin area got slammed with an unprecedented amount of rain, the worst they had ever seen. That meant bad news for us – the water level on Lake Travis shot up at flash flood proportions. We had to grab what we could and get out of there quickly. Our place was underwater for days, all the way up to the roof!
Once the water finally went down, we had a big decision to make. Do we give up on this place we poured our heart and soul into? Or do we pick ourselves up and keep going with the dream we started for everyone who comes here? We decided to fight for it. It wasn’t easy. It was months of hard work, putting in crazy hours.
But it was worth it, and we’re darn proud we didn’t give up.
Friends, family and strangers who became friends all supported us as we renovated Shack 512. This sense of united resilience now makes up the foundation of the endearing community and lakefront culture that exists here now. We’d like to thank everyone who has supported us in the past, and thank all of you in advance who will visit in the future.
